There is hardly any other place in the Königsbrück Heath where the work of the beaver can be traced as well as along the well-known visitor trail. The VELO WILDNIS tour offers you a unique opportunity to experience nature in a special way – by bike on the traces of one of the most fascinating animals of our native fauna!
Terrain guide Karing Klotsche knows the Königsbrück Heath like the back of her hand. With her many years of experience and extensive knowledge, she sharpens your eye for the often hidden traces of the beaver. You will learn to interpret the signs in nature and understand the important role the beaver plays in our ecosystem.
The beaver is a true "landscape architect"! During the tour you will learn how entire habitats are changed through the influence of the beaver and what positive impact this has on various animal and plant species. From dammed streams to felled trees to newly created wetland biotopes – the beaver leaves its traces everywhere and thus creates habitat for countless other species.
The Königsbrück Heath wilderness area is one of the largest nature reserves in Saxony and a unique refuge for rare animal and plant species. A landscape that has been developing into wilderness for years extends over 7,000 hectares. Here, natural processes can unfold without human intervention – a paradise for nature lovers!

The VELO WILDNIS tour is ideal for nature lovers, families and anyone interested in local wildlife. The route is also easy to manage for less experienced cyclists, as we ride at a leisurely pace and take sufficient breaks. No prior knowledge of beavers or the Königsbrück Heath is required – just curiosity and love of nature!
